On Friday, after breakfast, we were going on a walking tour of Brooklyn Bridge, so walked to Times Square and took the subway. We used the New York Pass for the walking tour – the regular rate was $24.
The tour started at 9 am – we were a little early, so just sat outside, and it turned out that we were only ones on the tour. The office does not accept cash – if you want water, you will have to charge it. The tour guide was very good (Tip $5) and we learned lots about the history, including the Hurricane Sandy flood. Again, as you walk around, you will see lots of architecture.
The Tour Guide took us to the edge of Brooklyn
Bridge, and we walked halfways over and then back. We wanted to stay in
Manhattan, and, if we crossed, then we would have been in Brooklyn. There are many
locks fastened on the bridge. Police are stationed at the top
and vendors were being set up – a very interesting walk and very popular.
With walking with the tour guide, and walking on the
Brooklyn Bridge, 2 ½ hours walking before arriving for lunch at the Paris
Café (Established 1873) just a few doors down from the walking tour.
I had a very good shepherd’s pie and beer ($30).
Then we took the subway to the Empire State Building - again, we used the New York pass, regular price $32. The Empire State Building was busy - very efficient at getting you through – you ride up, take some pictures, and come back down. There are no benches - you are kept standing and although not rushed, you are kept moving . We then took the subway back to the hotel for a rest.
