#18 The Grampians and Departure

On the last day of my 4-month stay in New Zealand, flying to Arizona, I had several hours to kill before my 4:00 PM flight, so I decided to hike the Grampians trails near my Airbnb in Nelson (the bike was already disassembled, cleaned and packed the day before).

The summit of the Grampians is at 390m, with a huge radio tower, offering great views all around including Rabbit Island, about 30 km to the west of Nelson city.

Coastal hills east of Nelson.  Access from the south east side is quite steep, with a more gentle descent going north towards downtown Nelson, the last part comprising many short switchbacks.

The trail down towards downtown Nelson.  Even with many short stops for photos, the hike took only about two hours. I went to a coffee shop near downtown, before heading back home.

Steep road in the residential area just below the start of the Grampians Trail, at the edge of downtown Nelson.  At the Airport, a 1916 Locomobile Speedster, the most expensive car in America.
