2024/25 - #2 Mirador de Zapata

There are probably a million photos on the Internet from this lookout, so, on the first ride, I did not bother bringing a camera.  But on my second ride, I did bring my little GoPro camera.

Mind you, it is still pretty impressive when you come out of the forest onto the lookout platform, with El Teide smack in the middle of the view.

On the outbound route, once you get off the main road (TF-13) and especially past the village of Pedro Alvarez, it is a single-lane road designated “Zona Recreativa”.   Hardly any traffic on it, but also some very steep sections.  Much of the road in the park is in a tunnel of trees. Beautiful….

Near the Mirador de Zapata the road switches to two-lane, and there are cars parked on the shoulder where hikers get onto the trail heads.

For the route back down, towards Las Canteras, it is another main road (TF-12) with a fair bit of traffic.  After that, it is back onto TF-13 and downhill all the way to my apartment.

Basically 90 minutes up, followed by 30 minutes down.
