The
flights from Sal to Gran Canaria and La Palma were uneventful. Nice modern airport at Sal, but their
organization is not so great - my boarding pass said gate 7, but there are only
6 gates. As it got closer to departure time, I got suspicious and asked again at gate 6
if this is the right place for the flight to Gran Canaria. Of course it was not.
Apparently everyone else got boarding passes
with the right gate number, because I was the last person to board the plane. In
fact, I got a ride on the boarding bus as a single passenger. Because of that, plane departure was delayed
by a few minutes.
View
from inside the CRJ-1000 - African mainland in sight. Looks like this might be the peninsula near
Dakhla, Western Sahara.
The
taxi ride from La Palma airport to Los Llanos de Aridane is a long one, with
endless switchbacks and a couple of tunnels (the first being a “tunel-chico”
according to the driver). Ride fare was nearly 45€.
Tenerife's
El Teide comes into view....
In fact, as soon as you get off the plane, you
get a very impressive view of the eastern slope of La Palma, which seems to go
right up into the sky (the airport being low down, close to the coast).
The
south end of Gran Canaria, with Tenerife in the distance.
Much cooler here than in Cape Verde, so I had to
put on a long sleeve shirt right away (it was already past sunset local time). South
east of Gran Canaria, approaching the airport.
