We left the hotel at 8 o’clock and, after a comfort break, at 11:30 am, came to Takayama - (Hida region) in the Japanese Alps. Amazing views from the bus. There was an included lunch in a restaurant - hida beef - which we cooked ourselves - very good lunch.
Then we went down an old shopping street to taste Sake, and then extra time to do some shopping. It was still raining out, so we were happy to get on the warm, dry bus.
We then went to a paper making site - we made 3 postcards. There was a paper store there if you wanted to buy, and, as we left, the store clerks came out and waved good bye to the bus.
Then back on the bus to Gokayama - an UNISCO site. This is an old village with thatched roofs and steep rooked wooden houses. It had stopped raining there, so we walked around the village. Nice bathrooms here…
Back on the bus, and checked into the Tokyu Hotel in
downtown Kanazawa. For dinner, we went to Salvatore’s for a pizza,
salad and a beer ($26). This was right
besides the hotel - a nice walk there and back.
