Sunday, Sept 2nd, we walked
to Gaslamp Quarter, and had breakfast at Rustic Root – blueberry pancakes and
coffee ($15) – good breakfast. There was
a Farmers Market outside – One vendors stall....
Then back to the Hotel, and took a cab
to the Zoo ($14). As this was a holiday
weekend, the Zoo was not busy at this hour, but later on, very busy.
We toured the Giant Pandas – a long line
outside, then walked on a path next to their enclosure, and then out the other
side. It was exciting to see them, even
though they were all resting.
For lunch, we went to Albert’s
Restaurant right in the Zoo. Because we
had made a reservation, we did not have to wait, but others did. We sat outside on their patio, enjoying their
waterfall, and had a good lunch of soup and fish and chips ($25). The Zoo pass also give us access to Skytram….
After leaving the Zoo, a 5 minute walk
through the Elephant trees takes you to Balboa Park. We went to a couple of museums, including the
Timken Museum of Art, where we saw The Woman in Green by Bhavna Mehta.
Back to the hotel, rested, and then at 7
pm, went to Oceanaire, about 3 blocks from the hotel. I had Ceaser salad,
halibut with scalloped potatoes, and two Samuel Adams beer. ($58). A excellent dinner…
