On Saturday, Holland America docked in Punta Arenas,
Chile.
We took the Holland America excursion The Tycoons of
Patagonia ($104.95) and left the ship at a little after nine. A very
nice bus drove us around - first, we went to visit their cemetery - one of the
10 most beautiful in the world. Good
history lesson here....
Then to the Plaza de Amass for a scenic view of the
City, and to visit the Braun-Menendez Mansion.
Afterwards, we walked to the square and bought some souvenirs. The Mansion was quite busy, and crowded.
Then to a sheep shearing ranch - drinks were served
here and empanadas - very good. Wood
fires were burning - first we watched a little movie about the ranch, and then
outside to see the llamas and then into a shed to see a sheep being
sheared.
There were old cars in the back of the barn. Then
back to the Ship about 1:30 pm (tip $5).
For dinner, I had bacon and cabbage soup, baked eggplant, and, of
course, wine.
