Thursday, Sept 6th – we went
for breakfast at Roxanne’s, a coffee shop right next to the hotel - very
good. Then we walked to the Cable Car
Museum – this is free, and very interesting.
The Streetcar cables run under the streets outside, and the Museum runs
the machinery to keep them going.
The streets are so steep, hard to walk,
but you will be amazed at the architecture you will see. Then to Grace Cathedral – 10 minute walk from
the Cable Car Museum – magnificent.
We took a cab going to the Pier, listened
to the Cab Driver’s advice, and went to Tadich Grill for lunch - The Oldest
Restaurant in California. Very busy
during lunch time – we waited by the door for maybe half an hour, but did not
mind waiting. We thought the restaurant
was quite small, but when seated, lots of tables in little rooms. I had liver and onions and iced tea ($27) –
excellent restaurant.
Then we walked to the Ferry Building,
about 10 minutes away, and looked around in there. We walked down the piers to Pier 41 to pick
up our Alcatraz tickets. Long walk, but
lots of company with the many tourists.
We took a cab back, rested, and then walked
to a movie. After that, walked back to a
Pizza place (excellent) kitty corner to the Hotel.
