Friday – Sept 7th – we had
breakfast at Roxanne’s, right next door to the hotel. Waffles and strawberries ($15) – very good.
Then we took a cab to Haight-Ashbury ($15). Have
the cab driver drop you off 1 block uphill at the Painted Ladies houses, and
then you walk downhill, admiring condos with marble steps.
We walked up and down Haight – very
quiet in the morning, but interesting, with quaint architecture. Then
we went for lunch at the Magnolian Pub and Brewing – sausage and sauerkraut
w/salad ($23) with homemade root beer (delicious).
Then we took a bus ($1.35) right outside to the Golden Gate Park – although this is only about 6 blocks, save your walking for the Park. First, the Children’s Playground – there was a Carousel ($2) and we went for a ride. Then to the Conservatory of Flowers – very scenic, and with a Corpse flower.
Then to the de Young Museum – first, a
coke and rhubarb/strawberry tart ($11) and then toured the Museum, which is
free of charge.
We took a cab back to the hotel, rested,
and went to the Bouche restaurant for dinner.
This was right down from the hotel, and was a busy French restaurant. Even though we had made a reservation, they
kept us waiting at the front door for about half an hour, and did appear to be
a little understaffed. I had salad, pork
tenderloin, and chocolate brownie for dessert with wine ($50).
